How to Repurpose Content for Social Media

Learning how to repurpose content can save you a lot of time and effort in your online marketing. For example, you can post a video on Facebook and reuse that same video for Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, Blogger, Pinterest and other social media.

This method is the method that I use. Of course there are other ways, but this is the way that I learned how to repurpose content by using videos posted on Facebook in my other social media marketing.

I have invested in training on how to properly do online marketing, and I have only scratched the surface of what is available. If you are interested in the online training system that I use, you can find that here.

How to Repurpose Content in Your Social Media Marketing

First, of course, you need to create the video. Most people have a cell phone that has video capabilities. You can really use very simple equipment to post a video to Facebook, for example. I actually just use an iPad. The iPad with an external mic and the internet is all that I use for my online videos.

Once you have decided your topic, you just pull out your cellphone and hit the "record" button and start talking. I do all my videos unscripted and unrehearsed. If the recording is really bad, I just delete it and start over.

Here is my process for repurposing content for social media. Record the video. Once the video is recorded, my iPad gives me the option to send it somewhere, such as Facebook, OneNote, Evernote, Gmail, etc. I actually send mine to Google Drive, which is an online storage site. I send it to Google Drive just to get it off of my iPad to save some storage space and also to get my video somewhere where I can access it from anywhere.

From Google Drive I download it back to my laptop and store it as an mp4.file on my computer. That gives me a local copy that I can work with and to also have backed up on my Carbonite account, which is an online backup and storage site.

Once I have that file on my computer, I upload the video file directly to Facebook. Facebook likes videos that are upload directed to it as opposed to videos that come from YouTube, for example.

I upload it to my Health and Freedom with Roger Cox fan page, and then I also share it to my personal Facebook page, just to get a little more exposure.

Next I start playing my video file and I transcribe the video to text, using Notepad on my laptop. You can hire someone to do this for you, or there are websites that will also do it for you if you upload your video to them.

I hit "play" and let it play for a few seconds, and then I pause it and write down what I had just heard. I do that for the whole video, and I end up with a complete transcript of my video, which I will use later for my blog.

Once that is done, I upload my video file from my computer to YouTube. When your video has been uploaded and is being processed, YouTube will give you the option to share that video at that time to other social media sites for which you have accounts.

Facebook is one of those options, but since I have already uploaded my video to Facebook, I skip that option.

I also share the video on my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts with just a punch of a button.

Now I take my transciption of my video and start doing some keyword research for the main topics of my video. Once I have selected some appropriate keywords, I tweak and rewrite my transciption to effectively use those keywords to make it search engine friendly.

Finally I post the video and the video text to my WordPress blog and also to my Blogger blog.

So that is how to repurpose content taking videos posted on Facebook and posting them to other social media at the same time that I post to Facebook.
